In Silicon Valley Sexism Case, No Winners

Silicon Valley and the venture capital industry does not look good in this case, which is clearly showing that men dominate the industry, many men are paid far higher salaries than women, and the accepted norm is to engage in arrogant, egocentric behavior. But Pao’s case for gender discrimination and retaliation seemed increasingly problematic when put under the microscope of a month-long trial. Kleiner’s defense sought to put Pao’s character on trial, in an effort to show that she was not suited for the promotion she aspired to.

Now, the scrutiny that Pao has been under and her loss at court could have a chilling effect on other women contemplating similar legal complaints.

In the end, no one in this lawsuit came out looking good.
