The U.S. dollar was mostly higher against most other major currencies in European trading Thursday. Gold rose.
The euro traded at $1.4362, down from $1.4493 late Wednesday in New York. In afternoon trading in New York Thursday, the euro fetched $1.4368.
Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Wednesday, included 107.97 Japanese yen, down from 108.23; 1.1110 Swiss francs, up from 1.1058; and 1.0655 Canadian dollars, up from 1.0610.
The British pound was quoted at $1.7686, down from $1.7759.
Later, in afternoon trading in New York, the dollar bought 107.23 yen and 1.1068 francs, while the pound was worth $1.7730.
Gold traded in London at $805.75 per troy ounce, up from $803.50 late Wednesday.
