What the Future Looks Like for Banking
Dick Bove, analyst at Rochdale Securities, discusses the changing face of the banking industry. What's key for banks is to get their loan losses down as much as possible and to understand that debt got us into this crisis and certainly won't get us out. He says another 150 to 200 banks will go under before year's end. What's more, current regulation will not work for the simple reason that too many regulators, namely the OCC, FDIC, Fed, OTS, SEC and states, exist. A single regulator, with proper staffing, that enforced new 'reasonable underwriting standards' could prevent future banking catastrophes.
