Peru: Counterfeiting More Profitable Than Cocaine

|

Millions of U.S. dollars have been counterfeited in Peru by kids as young as 13, the Associated Press reports.

The dollar, the world’s most frequently counterfeited currency, used to be copied most frequently in Colombia. But weak law enforcement and cheap craftsmanship are making Peru a center of production. The Secret Service even opened an office in the South American country last year to combat the problem.

More than $100 million in fake U.S. currency tied to Peru has been seized, according to the AP report.
