Ben Stein: Republicans Are to Blame for Huge Deficits

|

The national debt recently eclipsed $19 trillion--nearly $60,000 per American--and Neil Cavuto thinks both parties are responsible for it. Cavuto had Ben Stein on to discuss the rising debt level.

NEIL CAVUTO: Ben Stein, your views on this because I just see a great opportunity for the parties to frame the debate in a constructive way and they're not.

BEN STEIN: They're not going to frame it in a constructive way and, in fact, I hate to say this but, bear in mind I do love Adele, the Republicans are really the ones to blame for these huge deficits because they're the ones who cut taxes when we were rolling along with surpluses and rolling along on a very powerful economy with surpluses...

CAVUTO: And what happened to this other $7 trillion that got piled onto debt?

STEIN: Well, that piled on there, but if we had the same Clinton-era tax rates, it would not have been anywhere near as much. We cut taxes recklessly. That was our entitlement in terms of gifts to the rich and the upper-middle class. And now, I don't think we Republicans can complain that much...
