The number of voters who blame the Bush administration for the nation's current economic problems has reached its lowest level measured to date. Trust in President Obama's economic judgment has hit a new low as well.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Voters finds that 48% say the current economic problems are due to the recession which began under the Bush administration. This finding is down five points from late April and compares to 62% in May of last year.
Forty-three percent (43%) now say the nation's economic problems are being caused by the policies Obama has put in place since taking office. That's up four points from a month ago and is the second highest level of blame for the president in a year of surveying. Last October, 45% blamed his policies.
Perhaps it's no surprise that a solid majority of Republicans blame Obama's policies, while most Democrats blame the recession that began under the Bush administration. By a 48% to 38% margin, however, voters not affiliated with either major party blame the policies of the current president for the nation's continuing economic woes.
But 95% of the Political Class point the finger at Bush, while 53% of Mainstream voters think Obama's policies are the problem.

The number of voters who trust their own judgment has remained fairly consistent since early June of last year. However, the number of voters who place more trust in Obama's decision making is down six points from the end of last month and has reached its lowest level measured since early February 2009.
Eighty-two percent (82%) of GOP voters and 70% of unaffiliateds trust their own economic judgment more than the president's. Fifty percent (50%) of Democrats put more confidence in Obama.
Again, the Political Class is even more supportive of the president. While 72% of Mainstream voters have more faith in their own judgment, 64% of the Political Class trust Obama's judgment more.
When voters were asked which party do they trust more to handle the issue of the economy, recent polling found that 43% trust Republicans to handle this issue and 39% trust Democrats. Seventeen percent (17%) are undecided.
Even as Congress puts the finishing touches on legislation asserting more government control over the U.S. financial industry, most voters continue to believe the legislators have little idea what they're doing when it comes to the economy.
Americans overwhelmingly view the federal budget deficit as a major problem, and they blame Bush and Obama "“ and their respective parties - almost equally for the size of it. Most also believe the Bush Administration increased federal spending too much.
