America's Income Differences

What might be helpful in the debate on income equality is to actually look at the demographic factors that explain differences in income among American households and to see if rapaciousness plays any role. The chart below shows selected characteristics of U.S. households by income quintiles in 2009, using data from the Census Bureau.
