It's been the setting for The King’s Speech, The Saint and James Bond’s GoldenEye. But rarely will Drapers’ Hall in Throgmorton Avenue have hosted quite so many players from a real-life drama.
On Wednesday night, 220 of the City’s most grizzled money men will gather at the august venue, just along from the old Stock Exchange building. The occasion? The 25th anniversary of Big Bang – the cataclysm on October 27, 1986, that shook the City into the modern world.
For Brian Winterflood, the Square Mile’s best-known market-maker, it was the moment “we changed from being a nice, chummy club into a serious business – and made London the pre-eminent financial centre in the world”.
