Government Hiring Boom?

I was somewhat surprised when I saw a recent story claiming that state and local governments were hiring robustly again. While I'm never one to doubt that local school boards and public safety officials will find a way to hire even amid bad budget news, I took a look at the BLS's employment database, which tells quite a different story about the first several months of this year.
