Casey Logan, workforce reporter for The News-Press, sat down Thursday with Steve Forbes. The chairman and editor-in-chief of Forbes Media was in Fort Myers as part of the FGCU Lutgert College of Business W. Thomas Howard Lecture Series. Forbes, a Republican who ran for president in 1996 and 2000, is known for his promotion of a flat income tax. The 69-year-old is considered an expert on the global economy, monetary policy and politics.

I'll start with a broad question. What can be done to improve the economy?
“I’d like to see a flat tax so we can reduce the tax burden. We need to allow real credit markets again, to stop the Fed from manipulating them. Health care needs more patient control. Hospitals should have to post prices. There needs to be fewer regulations on health care. Small businesses are getting crushed.”
