Did Capitalism Truly Give Pilgrims Thanksgiving?

Each Thanksgiving a few liberal and conservative columnists spar over whether America’s first European colonists were starving to death as a result of trying the human-initiative-killing idea of communal ownership.

In 2014 Slate’s Joshua Keating mocked the whole idea by concluding, “Everyone has a right to a Thanksgiving parable of their very own.”
