In a certain respect, 2019 for the stock market started on December 24, 2018. That was the worst Christmas Eve on record for the S&P 500, which plunged 65 points, or 2.7%, to 2351.10.
That washout left the S&P 500 down 14.8% in the month of December alone and down nearly 20% from its close on October 1, 2018, but, then, the selling stopped. 2019 began and the buying got going in a big way.
