When I was growing up in Cleveland, I didn’t know a single person who flew. If anyone went on a trip, they packed suitcases in the trunk of their car and filled a cooler with bologna sandwiches for the ride. The reason was simple – nobody in my neighborhood could afford to fly. Back then, traveling on an airplane was a luxury reserved only for the wealthy and the business class.
Times have changed. Today, nearly 90 percent of American adults have flown, and half have flown before their 16th birthday.
