Leading up to the recent NBA Draft, it was reported that some of the smart money in the betting markets had Bronny James, son of LeBron, being picked #1. The reason this was news beyond Bronny being the son of a former #1 pick had to do with analysis of LeBron’s son as a player. The consensus was that he didn’t rate a first round grade, let alone the top pick in the entire draft.
At the same time, it’s no mystery why there was betting on Bronny James being picked #1. The latter was a market signal rooted in speculation that the team picking Bronny would be first in line to sign his eventual first ballot, Hall of Fame father. In other words, the betting lines signaling the possibility of Bronny going #1 were a LeBron story, first and foremost.
