Antitrust Should Scrutinize GOOG's Wiz Acquisition Closely

Google’s recent acquisition of a fast-growing cybersecurity startup raises familiar concerns about the tech giant’s strategy to dominate industry markets and stifle competition. And once again, federal regulators must take a skeptical approach to the tech behemoth’s motives, particularly in the wake of recent judicial rulings finding Google to be an illegal monopolist in several markets.

In a deal that sent ripples through the tech industry, Google in March agreed to acquire Wiz for a staggering $32 billion. It’s a move that positions Google to potentially reshape both the cloud and cloud security marketplaces, but it’s also one that raises significant antitrust questions given Google’s history of anticompetitive acquisitions and practices aimed at suppressing and eliminating its competitors.
