One of the main goals of the Trump administration is to increase investment in America. The President believes that attracting foreign investment and increasing domestic investment will revitalize American industry and create millions of high-paying jobs for American families. The increased investment will strengthen the U.S. economy and increase American prosperity.
The goal of his trade policy is to encourage foreign companies to invest in America, creating jobs and economic security for working families. His call to reduce the corporate tax rate to 15%, one of the lowest rates in the world, would boost investment in America, increasing productivity, wages, and jobs.
One other step he could take that would immediately increase foreign investment and increase economic security for American workers would be to approve Nippon Steel’s proposed alliance with U.S. Steel. The President has ordered a new review of the proposed merger, which former President Biden blocked in the closing days of his administration.
Biden’s decision to block this deal with a close ally was one of his worst economic and foreign policy decisions, sending a signal to the world that the U.S. was not open to foreign investment. Japan is the largest foreign investor in America, employing a million American workers, and is one of our closest national security partners, helping us protect and secure peace in the Pacific.
The President would achieve a major win for his investment in America policy by approving Nippon’s merger with U.S. Steel. His approval would bring more than $20 billion of investments into Pennsylvania and across the country.
The deal would provide billions of dollars of new investment to modernize the U.S. steel industry, upgrading aging steel mills, saving thousands of steelworkers jobs, and strengthening the U.S. manufacturing sector. These investments would make the U.S. steel industry more globally competitive, and help the U.S. compete against China in global markets.
Closing this deal would be a major win for Pittsburgh, the state of Pennsylvania, and the President’s America First policy. Nippon has promised to keep U.S. Steel’s headquarters in Pittsburgh, honor all union agreements, and allow U.S. Steel to control the company’s board of directors.
These investments will protect steelworkers jobs, provide cash payments to individual workers, and help rebuild plants and communities across Western Pennsylvania and the country. U.S. Steel workers and their families support this deal. It is a good deal for them and for America, and the President should approve the deal.
