CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (MarketWatch) "” The stock market timers with the best long-term record are, on balance, bullish.
The consensus of those on the Hulbert Financial Digest's monitored list with the worst records, in contrast, is far more bearish.
That is perhaps one of the best arguments right now in favor of a higher stock market in March "” especially when coupled with the news that there is no particular reason to expect the market's major trend to shift during the month.
In effect, to bet that the stock market will decline in March, you have to bet that the timers who in the past have done the worst job of timing the market will now get it right and the best timers will get it wrong.
On the assumption you don't want to make that bet, I present to you a list of those stocks that are most popular right now among those advisers whose advice is most working right now.
By "most working," I am relying on the same definition I use each week for my investment newsletter Hulbert On Markets: What's Working Now. Specifically, I take all advisers on the HFD's monitored list who have beaten a buy-and-hold in the market over the last 15 years, and then narrow the list even further to include just the 15 with the best performance over the last 12 months.
Each of these stocks is recommended by four of these top performers, except Disney "” which is recommended by five of them. That's an impressive amount of popularity, given that there are only 15 advisers in this group.
