Why There's No Easy Path Toward New Wealth Taxes

Based on just-released Census data, the wealthiest states in the country have a strong tilt toward Democrats. The least wealthy states, on the other hand, are part of the populist core of the Republican party. These findings have implications for whether additional taxes on the affluent could be passed by Congress.

Eight of ten of the wealthiest states have a senior senator from the Democratic party, with the exceptions being Maine and Montana.
